UPDATE*** As of April 7, 2015 nearly a month and a half since I assembled the bed, I have not had one problem with the bed. I had some extra time on my hands today with some rainy weather, so I took out the allen wrench and attempted to tighten all the screws. No need. With the blue thread locker i put on there during assembly, everything is still tight and sturdy. A very active 3 year old boy has not managed to tear this bed up yet and I doubt from the sturdy construction that he will be able to.I hope this helps your buying decision.******I bought this bed for my son for his new "big boy bed". We love it. It is the perfect height for my wife and I to tuck him in without having to climb up the bed like you would have to with a traditional bunk bed, and it isn't too high that if he were to fall or jump (most likely) off the bed, that he could hurt himself. I used a standard twin mattress with no bunky board or anything underneath. The supports are close enough together once you clip everything together to support a regular mattress. I bought one here on Amazon for like $95, and it came rolled up in a small box. You can read my review on the mattress there. As far as the whole buying process, Amazon got it out to me and it was supposed to be delivered on the 3rd day, but due to a winter storm and to bad road conditions in my area, I didn't get it for over a week past the scheduled delivery date. But, alas, it did finally come. The box is HEAVY! You will need two people to handle it. I unpacked it and laid all the pieces out on the floor so I could find everything, and from start to finish, I took about 3 hours to assemble it. I could have assembled it a little faster, but I chose to put the blue Locktite thread-locker on all my screws as I assembled it. I highly recommend that, so you won't have to worry about the screws coming loose after a three year old jumps on it for a month. It gives me a little piece of mind to know that they are locked it there, but not permanently so disassembly is possible if you ever need to in order to move, or sell, etc. You can pick the blue-glue up at any home improvement store for about $6.So, all in all, I think this bed was an excellent purchase. I would highly recommend the bed. It seems to be very sturdy and will last a long time, even with my rough and rowdy three year old son. I love the storage in the steps. The bottom part is a pull-out drawer, and we used that to put his cars and airplanes in, and the top part is a swing-out cabinet that we put a little storage bin with some Lincoln logs in. Perfect for toy storage.Buy it, you won't be disappointed. I will update this if anything changes and you guys need to know about it. For sure use the thread-lock!Read more

Note: I'm not really using this bed as directed, so probably don't do as I'm doing, but I'm letting everyone know it's possible (i.e. don't do this with small children, I'm an adult and accept the dangers of removing the side railing of the bed). This is a really good bed for someone tight on space. I recently moved into a really small room and needed storage options, while simultaneously owning an elderly cat that can't make the jump up to a mid-loft bed--insert this Jr. loft! The steps are PERFECT and help my cat get up onto the bed, and there's lots of storage room underneath. I'm a 5' and 120 lb person, and this bed seems very sturdy to me (and even my boyfriend who is 5' 11" and 150 lbs, though we've never sat on the bed at the same time for obvious weight limit reasons). My mattress is much taller than recommended for the bed, and I have a 3" foam pad on top of that, so the mattress very easily cleared the side railing. For this reason, I didn't assemble the bed with the railing and am easily able to slide myself off the side without much problem. I've noticed very little change in regards to stability with the bed without this side railing. Again, if you've got a small kid in this bed, keep the railing for their safety; I'm just a small adult and know how to not fall off. Took a good 3 hours to assemble, but the parts were packaged and organized very well and it was a relatively painless process.Read more

Great bed! Very sturdy! My three year old loves his new "high up giant bed" replacing his toddler bed. It doesn't feel so high that he is scared, and I feel confident enough that unless he literally dove off head-first, any injury from an inevitable horseplay fall would be mild (I am not delusional. He is a wild boy, so I know eventually he will jump on this bed despite my warnings and will fall, but for now he's doing great). With a thin mattress (I believe the one we got was 5 or 6") and no box spring, the side guard rails are perfect protection height. The stairs feel much safer than a ladder for someone his age who still does a lot of sleep squirming, and easier for him to navigate up and down in the dark when he needs to get out of bed to harass me.It is supportive enough to hold the weight of two average sized adults (140-180 lbs each) + the three year old at once, as all three of us have snuggled up in it for story time without so much as it shifting under our weight, and under-bed section is awesome for a fort, storage, or a second mattress for sleepovers. My only honest complaint would be the same complaint I will have for any loft bed ever, which is that changing the sheets is not the easiest task in the world. Fortunately, the mattress I got is foam and very foldable, so I can actually lift it up and pull the sheets over, but 9 times out of 10, I still have to get up on the bed to make it. No big deal for me, but it can be frustrating when wrangling a wild preschooler and trying to quickly change sheets after a MOTN potty accident or something. That would be the only possible selling point for me for a standard twin bed, versus this cool loft. I always wanted bunk beds or a loft bed as a kid, but my parents said no, so naturally I am living my own dreams vicariously through my child. Worth it.Read more

Read many reviews before purchase, both good and not good ones. Most about hard assembling, some about damaged parts. Considering of the unbeatable price, we gave it a try. The bed came in a huge and heavy package. It's so huge and heavy that it would be hard to be sent to UPS offices for return unless you own a pickup. Luckily we have no need to do such a step. It's not hard of assembling. It just took a long time. We used one and half persons and spent about four hours totally including unpacking. The instruction's like a book but quiet clear. The accuracy of the parts're not perfect but defenetely acceptable. The final result's nice and sturdy. If you've tried Ikea furnitures before, this bed would not be a problem. Again, it's not hard assembling, just taking time. And the price's so unbeatable.

Questions & Answers

How much weight can the steps support?
I don't know the exact weight, but I'm like 240 lbs and I've sat on them. I don't know if I would recommend that though. And definitely wouldn't trust me in the actual bed part. The steps should be fine for any size child though.

will a twin mattress fit on the bottom, on the floor , underneath the bed if you wanted to put one there?
I do believe you would be able to fit the mattress. the bed frame is a bit larger than the twin mattress and there are no obstructions below the bed that would not allow for one. it's a very clean and simple design. very sturdy, my husband and 3 year old son lay together. the side bars are lower than i wanted at first … see more

Twin

A Twin bed also referred to as a single bed is one of the smallest bed in the market with a dimension of 38’’ by 75’’. Its compact size makes it ideal for single sleepers may it be children or an adult living in a small space such as a studio apartment. It’s an affordable and versatile bed set up for various sleepers such as toddlers and college student in the dorm. For over several decades it has been one of the most popular beds among college students and young children in their early teens as you can find it in most of their bedrooms, however in this modern age where people are seeking for more comfort and space, the popularity of twin beds is been over taken by queen size beds. Despite being great for growing children it’s also very flexible and versatile especially if you are trying to maximize the space in your bedroom.

Box Spring Required Standard

Are you looking to upgrade your bed or make a change, but are unsure which components are important and which you can ignore? Box spring is one of those things, and there are a few things that you need to determine if this accessory is necessary or not. Depending on whether you want to put your mattress on the floor or on top of your bed, Box spring will be necessary. The box spring helps a lot by providing underlying support for the mattress. It also raises the mattress to a more comfortable height, helping absorb impact and reducing the wear and tear on the mattress. Depending on your preference, the box spring protects the mattress by absorbing impact.

Black

When trying to open up a smaller bedroom most people often think about bright colors with light hues, but also there is a stronger advantage for going darker and there is no better way to do that than with a black bed. Black is known to amplify small spaces and also set the right mood in your bedroom space. A black colored bed makes your bedroom fell more intimate and special in ways that you could have never imagined before, something that you would never achieve with any of those bright colors. There is nothing as important as setting the right mood in your bedroom especially if you are a couple since it’s the base of your relationship romantically. A black bed adds a touch of intrigue but still blends right into the bedroom décor colors creating a timeless look.

Gray

Gray as a color can be somehow depressing and uninspiring especially in a darker bedroom, and as you already know sleeping in a gray bedroom is not as satisfying as sleeping in a brighter bedroom. Gray might not be as inviting as other colors but that doesn’t mean that a Gray bed is not a good choice for your bedroom. All you need to know before choosing a gray bed or any other no so bright colored bed is which bedroom décor is the best for that specific bed color. With a gray bed it can be really advantageous especially if you have an all-white bedroom since it will tone down the general look for your bedroom, creating some form of contrast. In case you have a bright bedroom and you wish to tone down I would definitely recommend for you a gray bed to help tone down your bedroom décor.

Silver

Sliver is a monochromatic color that creates a clean and elegant bedroom space. A silver colored bed goes perfectly well with a wooden flooring or any other dark wooden furniture in your bedroom. It’s also mainly used in bedrooms with bright blue accent walls to create a perfect environment for to relax after a long day’s work. To many people, silver is still considered a luxurious color and as a result a silver bed is definitely a representation luxury. Silver also has sleep inducing characteristics that will help you get more sleep, on average you are likely to get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. A silver colored bedroom on the other hand doesn’t look boring or washed up, but instead it creates an amazing bedroom with a lot of depth without even considering the contrasting colors.

White

A white bed is definitely a show stopper, it’s plain and simple. Despite people referring to white as lack of other colors, a white bed makes quite a statement. It gives your bedroom space a more open and timeless feel, while allowing your bedroom décor to standout even more clearly. A bed with a pure shade of white energizes your entire space giving it a vibrant new look, giving you the illusion of a more light within your bedroom. What makes a white bed a favorite for many is the fact that white as a color creates a relaxing sleep environment. And as you know choosing the right color is very important, since color is like magic and can influence your state of mind and emotions. If there is one thing you should do right is get yourself a white bed and enjoy every single moment you spend in your bedroom.

Bunk Loft

Sometimes, bunk beds and loft beds are often being used interchangeably. Don't fall for it. These two bed types have a difference. Yes, you may notice that they both have a ladder. However, a bunk bed has at least two beds stacked on top of each other and a loft bed, though a double-level bed as well, is only a single bed. Bunk beds are commonly seen in hostels, military camps, and dormitories. In addition, some of this kind come with a trundle or pull-out bed that can accommodate one more person.

On the other hand, loft beds allow you to use the space beneath your bed as a study or work area or as a closet. If the time will come when you decide that you don't need a bunk bed anymore, don't worry, you can convert it to a loft bed. Simply and carefully remove the bottom bunk. Depending on your needs, both bunk and loft beds are space-saving.

When your bedroom space is small storage can be the biggest challenge you will encounter. Your closet could be a solution but not big enough to pack so many clothes. Well, you may want to buy a bigger cabinet, but you don’t want to pack so many dressers and cabinets into your space that it feels clunky and crowded. Storage beds are a fantastic way to get more space without adding extra furniture, and a lot of them are so stylishly designed you almost don’t notice the drawers are there. This bed design offers a great way to make the most of the space in your room, giving you a place to stash clothes, bedding, and more inside or beneath your bed frame. The best storage beds feature spacious compartments that are easy to access, and with tons of styles to choose from. The most common options are shelves built into the headboard or drawers built into the frame below the mattress. Depending on the reason you want space, a storage bed provides easy access, but if you're storing items that you don't need to get to very often, you can opt for a spacious platform beneath the bed that can be accessed when you lift the mattress. Ultimately, your choice will come down to what's most convenient for you.

Metal

One of the most asked question when it comes metallic beds is, are they safe for younger children? And the answer is always, yes they are. One of reason to why metal beds have grown in popularity over the last couple of years is the fact that they require less maintenance since as we all know metal does not dent or scratch easily making it even a more attractive option as compared to wooden and plastic beds. When it comes to durability also metal beds are currently the most durable beds in the market more durable than the wooden beds and would even handle more weight than a wooden bed frame. Metal beds are also highly portable since they are lighter than other types of bed, and in case you are the kind of person who love rearranging their bedroom setup you will definitely love the metal bed.

Single Material

When you need to kick back and unwind on your own, you need a single-material bed. Single-material beds are an excellent choice for anyone that likes simplicity and practicality. Without combining materials, you get a clean and uniform looking bed that will match any bedroom. The con of a single-material bed is that they won’t stand out as much as other beds, but this can also be a pro as well, as it means they’ll easily blend into any room and not take attention away from other features that are nearby. The single-material is recommended if you’re after a bed for a minimalist setting, something that looks very simple and neutral - then you’re going to be satisfied by the single-material bed. Single-material beds also look great when you have two separate beds in the same room - the single-material look really gives the room a strong, matching and consistent appearance.

Bed Frames

Bed frames also known as bed steads are terms used to describe the support your mattress rests upon. It’s that part of your bed that holds up your mattress from the floor. A bed frame is one of the most overlooked part of a bed when making a bed purchase as most people tend to focus on the mattress alone, however, it’s good to note that bedframes play a crucial role when it comes to the comfort of your bed. The right bed frame provides you with enough comfort and support despite the type of mattress you are sleeping on, so if you have a bed that’s squeaking, sagging, or unstable the problem is usually your bed frame. As we all know a good night sleep starts with a solid foundation, a bedframe will impact the quality of sleep you get, a bed frame will even cause back pains and aches.

Beds

A bed can be referred as a piece of furniture which is used as a place to fall asleep and relax. In this modern age beds consist of a soft cushioned mattress and a bed frame, the mattress is usually resting on a sprung base, solid base, or a wood slats. Beds come in different sizes ranging from infant-sized cribs to small beds that can just accommodate one person, to large king and queen sized beds designed for two or more people. Most bed are usually a single mattress and a fixed frame, however there are other varieties such as a sofa bed, which folds out of a sofa or a murphy bed that folds in to a wall. Other beds can be referred as temporary beds as they contain neither a bedframe nor a mattress, a good example is the inflatable air mattress or the folding camp cot.
