South Shore Summer Breeze Mates Bed with 3 Drawers, Full 54-inch, White Wash

For some reason, I don't show up as a verified purchase, though my many pics show I obviously did get one! I bought this on April 6 from Amazon, in fact.I have A LOT of pics, which will really help you decide whether to buy... Here are my main points if you don't want the details (details are down below):1. Service from company is AWESOME. There were a few screws that were missing, so they FedEx'ed them all the way from Canada. Now that's service!2. The bed is sturdy, and given it's for a 5 year old that is 49 lbs, I'm sure it'll last at least until he's 10.3. It's not an expensive bed with well rounded corners and rich wood, but at well under $200, it's a solid value.4. I don't like the sharp corners of the drawers, the panel part that protrudes from the bed, but I put 1/8" rubber bumpers on, so they won't hurt my kids if they bump into those panels.Box: This item is very well insulated and had NO damage of any kind to any of the contents. Tons of foam and 2 layers of cardboard.Build: The instructions are really good. You'll still need over an hour, but not 2 hours. Instructions are awesome and the items are labeled, so you know which piece is which, not just pics that you have to decipherQuality of materials: This set is heavy, because the materials are very good for a particle board composition. This is not real wood so if you want a real wood set, this is not your product. But you'll also pay double. The holes are perfectly aligned; the fit is really good, there were no dents or scratches; these guys are great manufacturers.Drawer functionality: Very good, perfect alignment, I mean perfect. Plenty strong to hold a few pounds of clothes in each drawer.Overall, my kid is very happy. It's solid and even if he jumps up and down, this thing ain't gonna break. The boards that lay on top of the frame is 1/2 inch thick, which is not that thick, but the material is so heavy (dense), that I am comfortable standing on it with my 178 lbs.Tips: Use the tool that is included in the box, which is used to fit right into the gliders, and you hit that part and not the glider itself, so your hammer doesn't dent or break the glider. Tip #2: Included is a small paint bottle, which you can use if you scratch the bed. That is a really nice touch.I recommend, just watch out for those sharp corners (see pics!) and hopefully you'll have as good an experience as I did. Where you see a corner that looks like it was slightly, just slightly damaged or scratched, I did that to make the corner less sharp. Everything is marked and (almost) everything is pre-drilled for you. There are a few screws you have to put in by hand. Easy to put together if you follow the directions. Took me about an hr and a half to 2 hrs, taking my time (and interruptions), to put this together on my own with the directions, my hands and a phillips head screw driver (it lists other tools you may need in the directions, I did not find a purpose for anything but the screwdriver). I am an average sized female. You may need help moving the boxes though, as they are long and awkward. One was 77 lbs, the other was 87lbs.

I'm going to defend this bed.All right. I'm about to go into depth about my entire experience with this bed so that people can get a fairly honest picture of what this bed is like because based on the reviews, I was skeptical of getting something good for the amount of money I was paying for. If you're expecting a bed fit for the gods, then I might suggest shopping for furniture in person rather than online. This isn't to imply that the bed isn't good quality--it's actually pretty nice, but more on that later.Within three days of my order, I received it in the mail. I was a little worried about the rumors of it being the weight of a thousand elephants because I knew this was going to be a solo project. Not being the strongest of twenty-year-old girls, I was a little intimidated by own expectations. Now, I live on the first floor of my apartment, but there are about five stairs before getting to my door, which whoever delivered my bed still managed to bypass and settle the long package in front of my door (that was nice of him/her). The package was taller than I was (seven-eight feet maybe?) and skinny, but yes, it was heavy, but not holding-the-world-inside-of-it heavy. With a little maneuvering and some geometric guessing, I pushed the package inside my apartment. It would have been easier with a friend, probably, but rest assured, you can do it by yourself if need be. It certainly felt like 108 pounds of wood, but not much more.Packaging was done well, I have to say. I had to dissect the box open in order to get the pieces out, so keep scissors handy. Not a piece was damaged. There will be three long, recycled-wood pieces inside and they might be broken, but worry not, consumers! They are not part of your bed. They're for cushioning. You can promptly keep recycling those recycled-wood pieces and spreading the recycled joy as you begin the journey of building your bed.You will need a tool kit. Don't expect this bed to provide you little screwdrivers or hammers because they won't. You're an independent person. You should have a tool kit. It's essential in life. With that said, if you DON'T have a tool kit, you might want to purchase one (involving some good screwdrivers and a decent hammer, at least) while you purchase your bed. This is not a "screw with your fingers and hammer with a hardcover book" project.Now, as for the comments of the bed having more parts than IKEA furniture, that's a little silly. You have to build three drawers and the frame. For wooden pieces, you have nine for the main frame (headboard, footboard, long board for the right side of the frame, two skinny boards from the left for the drawers, two inside the frame to secure the two boards that will hold your mattress) and five wooden pieces per drawer (basically, to make the square frame and bottom of the drawer). There are a good amount of screws of all sizes, which the instructions give you a number of. Heads up: Not all the same types of screws will be in one neat little package. You'll have four screws of one type in four different bags. So, don't worry about missing parts; they're probably in another bag. This means you might want to organize your pieces before building anything to save time. They provide you this little rectangular thing to help with the hammering, which works really nicely. I saved the piece for later projects.Considering I did this aaaaall by myself and I was distracted numerous times, it took me five hours. So, if you have a friend or two, the time will cut in half (two-two and a half hours, in theory). The instructions were simple though. Perhaps one diagram had me puzzled, but once I held the pieces in question in front of me, I realized what the diagram was referring to. It's pretty simple.The drawers aren't THAT flimsy, if flimsy at all. If you nail everything properly and tightly, they're fine. As for weight, I keep 23 books in the middle drawers, 15 in the right one, and my laptop and electronics in the left. So, a good amount of weight in each. Clothes, in that sense, should be much lighter than 23 books. If you're storing bricks in the drawers, that's your business and everything, but perhaps a little odd for drawers.I just use a mattress on the bed frame, no box spring. My sleep has been amazing thus far, but people are different, so if you would like a box spring, it should be able to handle it. I just don't prefer having one is all, except for one thing: The box spring might add to the secureness of the bed. See, sometimes the bed sinks a little (just a little) when I sit in the middle of the bed, so I've put some stuff under the panels holding the mattress for support. It's not enough to make me think, "Oh no! The bed is gonna break!" But it is enough that I would like a little more support. If you have a box spring as opposed to just a mattress, this problem should immediately go away. If you add some support to the middle of the bed, then this also avoids sinking doom, which is what I have done, and I am sleeping amazingly. For any worries if your mattress won't fit (as I had because this bed kept referring to children and, I don't know, when I think of children, I think of tiny beds), you'll be fine. It fits a regular twin size bed, with a little extra room (about an inch all around, perhaps?), which works GREAT for me because I leave my phone and glasses in that little space as I sleep.It looks great. The blue adds pizazz to my room, which is barren because I just moved in and everything. So, I would recommend the bed. It does everything I need it to do. It's not a bed I think I'll have forever, but for the time being as a college student in her first apartment wanting something to make her feel a little more at home, this bed frame is a lovely one. This review is after using the product for 3 years:Drawers are quite useless, my daughter only stored a few light-weight toys in each of them (like barbie dolls, crayola, lego blocks, etc) and ALL three drawers fell apart after a 6 months of use. After that I just took them out and tossed them because due to horrible sharp-edges design my daughter had so many scratches/bleeding from front portion of those drawers (it sticks out, look at the photos.) This bed also has very sharp edges on all sides, and it's made of some cheap particle board. Very heavy but not at all strong, don't waste your money on this bed.And a general word of caution: Stay away from beds/furniture which do not have four legs (some clearance from the floor), VERY difficult to clean underneath them, and if you don't clean regularly underneath then it's a source of allergies/etc due to dust/dust-mites, etc.
