My husband and 14 year old son assembled the bed in 2 hours. They opted to leave the smaller top bookshelf off the desk to make more room for monitors. Construction is VERY sturdy. I ordered an 8-inch memory foam mattress for it, but I now see there would be room for a 10-inch mattress.

We needed this type of bed so that our daughter could have more usable space in her bedroom. There are two downsides to this bed that I would like to mention. The first issue is changing the sheets. The mattress fits in the top section quite snugly and it is hard to get the fitted sheet to fit over the mattress which is against the railing, plus I had to climb up there to do this, so be prepared to do some climbing. And this brings up the second issue, the ladder. The ladder is made up of square tubing that is not at all comfortable in bare feet, so unless you plan on wearing shoes to climb into bed each night, I suggest you buy a pool noodle, slice it down the middle and cut into four, 18" lengths so that you can put one section on each step of the ladder and use a zip tie on each end to secure it in place. I originally used the foam tubing that you would use to insulate your water pipes from freezing, but that foam can't take the daily climbing and started to tear after a couple of weeks.

Pic's of the boxes that many people are curious about.Box & Packaging:There are 2 and approx 6'X6'X7"Box 1 is very heavy and does require 2 people to move up stairs (also contains the manual)Box 2 is lighter and can be moved by 1 person but still quite a featEach piece was wrapped in plastic, with some foam and cardboard to prevent movement and such. Came well packed and minimal box damage and no damage to the frame. The hard part is having to breakdown the all cardboard for the recycle bin.Putting it together:I didn't have a hard time putting it together, took 4 hours but only because I was a moron and didn't pay attention to the 'front/back' stickers and got the screws mixed up. If it wasn't for my own errors I probably could have done it in under 3 hours, faster if you have a power tool to accomidate the bit type.Since I was doing this solo I put the first 3 pieces together on the frame's side then propped it upright and finished up. I found the keyboard hardware the most frustrating part. Instructions are very basic and I could see how some folks find them not user friendly as some of the repeating steps are not listed out and you have to assume where some bolts go based on the pattern. Compared to other DIY furniture I've purchased from target and such this was fairly easy with the exception of the size and weight. It is possible to overscrew the bolts and damage the frame so be cautious with this.Once I get a feel for the overall product I will give further reviews but seems like a solid piece.Read more

This is a really nice bed, that is easy to assemble and appears to be quality construction. However, it suffers from a fatal flaw... there is no easy entry point to the bed. The side and front rails encircle the entire bed making getting in and out of it very difficult and very uncomfortable. This lack of access makes it even harder to change sheets on the bed. The desk area underneath is great, although the bookshelf that goes all the way across really kills the depth of the desk. We ended up cutting the shelf in half so that it only went half way across left to right. This allowed the computer monitor to have a place to sit.I am very happy with the construction, and the bed was easy to assemble. You will need at least two people for the initial step of securing the bed frame to the end posts. After that first step, I was able to complete the project on my own with no extra help in about one hour. The packaging was excellent, it was very well protected, with heavy duty cardboard corners in addition to standard packaging. It arrived in the exact time window Amazon said it would. However, the trucking company that delivered it was supposed to call when they were 40 minutes out, and that did not happen.I would give this bed 5 stars in a heartbeat if they had just thought a little more about the design, and allowed access to the bed without having to crawl over the rails...Read more

The bed is nice for space saving however there are issues. Assembly is not easy with provided materials and 2 people are necessary for heavy parts. Tougher than Ikea. The bed does wobble and restless actions might require anchoring to the wall also changing sheets is a major pain and the ladder rungs need cushioning in order to be climbed in bare feet. Now the real deal breaker. The bed was damaged in shipping which was not obvious until we opened to assemble. It was non structural so we built it as we needed it. Amazons answer was to ship it back and get a new one -280 lbs. and 5 hours to build. We asked for a spare section and they sent us to Coaster. 3weeks later the said they could not help us-no spare parts but bolts and washers. The beds are shipped complete from China in two large cardboard boxes which is what is delivered to you. Now it's try to get money back and on to something else

Black

When trying to open up a smaller bedroom most people often think about bright colors with light hues, but also there is a stronger advantage for going darker and there is no better way to do that than with a black bed. Black is known to amplify small spaces and also set the right mood in your bedroom space. A black colored bed makes your bedroom fell more intimate and special in ways that you could have never imagined before, something that you would never achieve with any of those bright colors. There is nothing as important as setting the right mood in your bedroom especially if you are a couple since it’s the base of your relationship romantically. A black bed adds a touch of intrigue but still blends right into the bedroom décor colors creating a timeless look.

Metal

One of the most asked question when it comes metallic beds is, are they safe for younger children? And the answer is always, yes they are. One of reason to why metal beds have grown in popularity over the last couple of years is the fact that they require less maintenance since as we all know metal does not dent or scratch easily making it even a more attractive option as compared to wooden and plastic beds. When it comes to durability also metal beds are currently the most durable beds in the market more durable than the wooden beds and would even handle more weight than a wooden bed frame. Metal beds are also highly portable since they are lighter than other types of bed, and in case you are the kind of person who love rearranging their bedroom setup you will definitely love the metal bed.

Single Material

When you need to kick back and unwind on your own, you need a single-material bed. Single-material beds are an excellent choice for anyone that likes simplicity and practicality. Without combining materials, you get a clean and uniform looking bed that will match any bedroom. The con of a single-material bed is that they won’t stand out as much as other beds, but this can also be a pro as well, as it means they’ll easily blend into any room and not take attention away from other features that are nearby. The single-material is recommended if you’re after a bed for a minimalist setting, something that looks very simple and neutral - then you’re going to be satisfied by the single-material bed. Single-material beds also look great when you have two separate beds in the same room - the single-material look really gives the room a strong, matching and consistent appearance.
