I own an ErgoSwiss frame with a butcher-block Numerar Oak tabletop from IKEA. Apart from some small swiveling amplitude, it has been a perfect motorized desk for me in the past nine (9) years. Except - it cost me a fortune ($1,400 in 2010) to initially purchase. What I found in the last nine years is that once set up for standing working, I keep work standing, with very few "downs". Thus, for my next standing desk frame, I was searching for a less expensive alternative, ready to give up motorized up and down. Thus, I tried this frame. It came with box strap partially reaped into the carton, despite plastic angle protectors, but no bent parts. The frame is high quality, about 80% towards that of the ErgoSwiss in terms of exactness of parts fitting together. There were a few minor scratches out of the box (see the cross bar), but nothing to really complain about. The adjustable span is an excellent feature. The included Allen (hex) wrench is a joke: it stripped off by the middle of the assembly, so I could not properly tighten the bolts at the end: prepare your own hex key, and they thought of a storage place for it in the frame. The bolts better be star (Torx). My tabletop (not in the pictures) is far larger than their recommended spec, so the included handle would not really work. You kinda can still use it, re-inserting it every half turn, but finding a large hex key and rotating it with a drill is the solution, since I am not going to lower it often. This frame is significantly less sturdy than ErgoSwiss (in terms of max bearing load and how it feals and deforms when you flip it up with the tabletop mounted), but once set up, there is no difference. For the overall value for the money, this is absolutely the best solution for the manually adjustable frame. Highly recommend.Read more

I looked at various height-adjustable desks, and finally settled on this one (a frame -- you need to supply a top) even though no one had reviewed it yet. The same company makes what appear to be similar adjustable desk-frames that were highly rated; but those lacked a stabilizer bar and some reviewers mentioned a mild wobble to them. So I took a chance on this new model, and I am delighted. It is quite stable even at the highest level (45").It is not perfect -- there are some minor issues, such as rather ambiguous assembly instructions; and one or two screws partly stripped inner threads even with mild tightening. Also, the crank assembly did not work properly as shown in the picture (cranking from the front); and I instead had to crank from the side (which is actually better since now the crank-rod is in line with the transmission rod instead of working at right angles through a gear mechanism). But there is one thing that strongly overrides these hassles: this is a company that stands 100% behind their product. I contacted them by email ( info@canaryproducts.com ) about the crank issue and got an immediate response and followup phone-calls and personalized youtube videos, and the problem was solved quickly. Moreover, they offered to send a new leg (which has that gear mechanism); but I declined, since I am happy with the side-position cranking. (They actually wanted the old leg back to figure out what was wrong; they had not noted such a problem before.)They also recommended an IKEA top (a mere $30) and I have installed it.I would definitely order this again and again (any time I wanted a height-adjustable desk). One comment: I do not raise and lower the desk often. I tend to keep it high (about 43"), to work standing up (or perched on a high stool). It does take a little effort to crank up or down -- not a huge amount, but one does need to work a little at it. The motion is smooth and solid, so I imagine it would last through many up-down cycles if one were to do that. I can imagine that -- were I planning to change desk-heights on a daily basis -- I might opt for an electric one (IKEA has really neat ones like that); but then I'd also worry that the motors might develop problems over time and be hard to service.Read more

I bought my desk in January, the price at the time was $309. The desk frame is much heavier duty than I expected. Assembly was straight forward, although the included instructions were sub par.I added a 3/4x24x72" pine panel, $30 or so from Lowes or Home Depot, which I first rounded one corner and radiused the top edges and a single coat of a clear water-based finish. The panel isn't quite deep enough to cover the upper rails; with the panel aligned to the front of the front rails, there is most of 4" space between the back edge and the wall. I will likely build a hardwood replacement top that is deeper, somewhat thicker, and maybe wider in the future but this one works for now. With the top at 30" above the floor, there is hardly any wobble. At full height, there is a little wobble, but I'm not sure how much is from the frame flexing and how much is from sitting on padded fairly thick carpeting; regardless, I'm not concerned about spilling coffee from a fairly full mug with normal use.Minor drawbacks: The included screws to mount the table top were a bit longer and definitely thicker than I felt comfortable using on the pine panel. The included adjustable feet would likely not work well if you wanted to move the desk by sliding it. The gear ratio requires about 11 turns to raise/lower the unit 1"; this makes for a lot of cranking to go from sitting to standing also means that the cranking isn't hard especially if you have a heavy amount on the desk, I think of it as a mini cardio workout.Read more

This is my most expensive amazon purchase (about 350 when I got it), but the most cost-efficient frame that I could find with a few decent reviews. For starters, I was looking for a stand up desk so I could work on the computer for hours and constantly switch the height from standing to sitting as needed. I didn't want an electric-adjusted desk because I didn't want to worry about the motor breaking down. I did not consider buying just a frame at first because I didn't want to go through the trouble of installation, but eventually I realized that it was the most cost-efficient route.Installation went well (The instructions were understandable but certainly could have been better.) It is possible to install by yourself but easier and safer with a partner. (I did it by myself, but I think I got lucky escaping injury.) I also had a table top conveniently lying around to use, but I don't think it would be too hard to buy one from somewhere like ikea for around 50 to 100 bucks, depending on your chosen material.I timed myself, and it takes me 1-2 minutes to smoothly crank the table from sitting to standing position (Its a long time compared to how an electric motor can do it in under 30 seconds, but it still gets the job done.) The highest possible table height is just enough for my brother to use, who is 6 feet tall exactly. As shown in my picture, I like how conveniently compact and remove-able the table crank is.Near the highest height, if I shake the table top using casual force with one finger, it shakes about 1/4 of an inch. Its enough to shake my monitors quite noticeably. Anyhow, that was my attempt to show you stability. In my real practical use (just typing), stability is no issue, and my monitors just tremble a tiny bit if anything. Hardly noticeably.I've been using for a few months. I adjust the height from standing to sitting a few times daily. I've seen no issues. Honestly, I feel like I've been sitting or kneeling a lot more than I've been standing (because I get uncomfortable on my legs quickly) but maybe that just me.Overall far from perfect, but it does satisfy me so that I don't regret it. I don't think that it should cost much more than 300 dollars. As of this writing, it cost over 500, but I hope it is only temporary because I don't think its worth quite that much..I hope this much-longer-than-normal-for-me review has helped to some degree!Read more

--- updated review ---after a month the desk no longer goes up or down, sounds like the gear teeth are stripped inside the leg. I have less than the max supported weight on it--- original review ---This desk is way better than I imagined. I was very worried about buying this from the photos as it doesn't have a cross bar and from my experience with standing desk a cross bar is necessary to keep things stable. However for $160 I decided the value was there that although it would not be perfect it would be enough.Based on other review photos and answers to questions it would appear Ergomax has upgraded their desk without marking the changes and there are no image changes or notes changes. I verified on the box I received the one I ordered. However they now ship with desktop hardware screws and even a crossbar!Desk takes less than a minute to move up or down without any real effort, I would stay this is around the same speed of a single mortar desk but slower than a desk with dual motors.I put on a desktop sized at 72"x36" and I still can't get over how stable this table is at standing height (I have it around 44"). This thing seriously is amazing and I have already recommended it to one of my friends.Read more

About how long does it take to crank the handle and go from sitting to standing and vice versa? Thanks!
Sitting to a comfortable standing height about 15 seconds average. A minute would b way off.BTW the max height is way over the comfort range of standing of the average person.

Can a 32" deep desktop fit? Since the frame is only 25" front to back I am afraid the crank would hit.
Yes, you can have overhang. This frame is heavy duty, it is not a cheap Ikea like product. My desktop is 30" deep and it overhangs the frame 2 1/2" front and back with no problem. You can have 4", or 5", overhang in the back and this frame will handle it. You can have 3" beyond the frame in front and the handle will f… see more

How is this product different than the ergo elements adjustable height standing desk? these two look exactly the same.
I just received and assembled 4 of these this week, so I'm pretty well familiar with the build and pieces. Looking at the zoomed in pictures of the other desk, they appear identical to me. My guess would be that they're the same desk made by the same manufacturer but sold by two different brands. That just a guess though.
