Our son loves this bed! We love that it wasn't that hard to put together. It did take two people and a few hours but not hard at all. There is a crawl space behind the bookshelf and drawers and he loves it! Just what we were looking for!!

I will be honest, the look of the bed is awesome. It feels very well made and sturdy. The color is great, although it's a little more orange than shown in the pictures. However, there are a few huge problems that prevent this bed from being a 5 star. When it comes to your child the most important thing is keeping him/her safe. I noticed the warning about the chemicals used to make this bed...things like formaldehyde. Most Donco beds (yes pretty much every child bed is Donco, although they look like they are made by someone else) have this California warning about the things in these beds that can cause cancer. I saw a lot of reviews on Donco beds claiming they had a strong smell. I thought, wow, some people are really over sensitive to this stuff. They talked about chemical smells and odors, things that would give any parent worry. To be honest, I had never really read about off-gassing from furniture like this and thought it was just another thing people were overly worried about. Well, the bed arrived and we had chosen to have it assembled (which was great by the way). The night before we opened the boxes and noticed a strong smell. I thought/hoped it was a normal new furniture smell. We thought, well, fine, it's been boxed up all of this time. Thus, we decided to air it out in the garage. The next day it was assembled for us. Right off the bat we noticed the chemical smell. It was so bad I was light headed and felt extreme shortness of breath. I could feel it in my lungs. We immediately decided to not allow our 3 year old to sleep in the bed for the first night to allow it to air out. We opened the windows, turned on some fans and hoped for the best. The next day it was the same thing. Three days later my son was still not able to sleep in the room. We put baking soda in the room. We put charcoal in the room. We kept the window open and the fans running all to no avail. I decided to buy the bad air sponge, which smells in itself, but it helped! However, the room was still not usable. I wrote Donco out of frustration. They said the bed met all the standards and that there was nothing to worry about. They said the summer was hot in the warehouse which likely made the smells worse, but that it would dissipate. I was told to try wiping it down with water and vinegar, which I had also read online from other people with the same issue. It definitely helped, but still was too strong. I wiped it all down again two days later. I spent about 30 minutes setting up lights underneath the bed for my son and noticed I was extremely lightheaded and short of breath. It had already been a week since we received the bed at that time. It has now been over a week and my son has yet to sleep in his new bed. He can't even use his room. The odor has dissipated, but it's still stronger than we would like. I let him take a nap in it, but when I opened the door to the room I could smell the strong chemical smell. I am really concerned, especially if it does not dissipate soon. Thus, you need to be aware of the chemicals used if you purchase one of these beds. Donco will not provide assistance or help and will put all responsibility on Wayfair, although Wayfair did not make this bed. I will say again, I want so badly for this bed to lose the odor because it's really nice. My son loves it, he just can't use it. I don't like the one step (in the middle) to get into the bed. My son struggles with this a bit. It needs a ladder, because one step is really awkward. Once he gets in it, he does love it. There is an ample amount of space underneath the bed. He thinks it's a club house. I put some rope light underneath and it looks great. He just can't use it yet. :-( If you take away the chemical odor that doesn't seem to dissipate, this would be a 5 star bed.

The paint is chipping in a few spots. It is sturdy though.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this bed is great size and functional. But the smell is horrible. Its been 3 months and the room still has a strong chemical smell. There is also several places where the outer coating is chipping off. I love the size and functionality of this low loft bed but the finishing touches are horrible. In search for another model for my son. Extremely disappointed.
