Relatively easy 1-person assembly. I substituted the 12-inch 1000-lb metal turntable that others recommended (ASIN B0045DV04I), and I like the solid feel and piece of mind - worth the nominal price and a bit of extra assembly in my mind. For extra security, rather than relying on gravity alone, I fastened the turntable to both pieces. Here’s how: Center the turntable on the top (finished side) of the base board, and mark on the base board where the two LARGE holes in the turntable are. Set the turntable aside and drill 3/4” or so holes all the way through the base piece at those two locations. (These holes will be a “window” through which you’ll later attach the turntable to the bottom shelf board.) Now, with a few wood screws attach the turntable to the top of the base board, keeping the large turntable holes centered over the holes you drilled in the base board. Now, take the shelf bottom piece and place it upside down (finished side down) on a work area. On top of that place the base piece, upside down with the turntable attached, on top of the bottom piece (with the turntable sandwiched between). Square up the bottom and base pieces. Now watch through the “window holes” you drilled and gently rotate the base piece slowly until you see the turntable screw-holes with which you’ll attach the turntable to the bottom shelf board. At this point you can drill a pilot hole and screw the turntable to the base piece. Repeat this for three more screws.Read more

This is just what I needed! I have a large DVD collection and had no room for them all. I bought this tower because of the capacity it holds. I still have room to spare to add more! I read previous reviews and bought the 1000 lb Lazy Susan instead of using what came with it. I'm glad I did! This unit spins with ease though I know it's extremely heavy! It fits into the corner I planned for it perfectly! Assembly was very easy! The hardest part was pushing the shelf holders in. I made sure to follow other reviews on placement of the shelves and it's perfect! I'm extremely happy with this item! My room is more organized now!

I was a little disappointed with the overall construction of the media tower. The material seemed a little cheap to me considering the cost. The back shelves are only anchored on the right side. This is wide enough that it needs to be anchored on the left side also. Some type of spacer for the (hollow) center would have helped a lot! Assembly was easy, except for the Lazy Susan (see below). Also note that the holes to use for DVD's, as listed in the instructions, is not correct - I just started at the top and checked the spacing as I went down. You definitely want to get a REAL Lazy Susan for this. We purchased the 1000 lbs Capacity 12 Lazy Susan Bearing 5/16 Thick Turntable Bearings VXB Brand The one that comes with the unit is not even close to being able to work with a full load - it is just a plastic rim with 4 rollers embedded in it. Speaking of a full load, we were not able to get 1600 CDs in this unit. Doing the math, that would break down to 40 CD's per shelf. We could only get 35-36 in each shelf, which would be a total of 1440. Most of our CD's are the original sized cases, not the newer narrower cases.Overall, it is doing a good job and we can store most of our CD's and DVD's. My wife is very glad to get the boxes out of the closet. If you have a lot of CD's and DVD's to store, this is probably your best bet, but you need to upgrade the Lazy Susan.Read more

The unit is just OK. It is satisfactory for CD storage, but has one LARGE drawback: the plastic swivel is totally inadequate for the task it is expected to perform: that is carrying the weight of up to 1600 CDs. I have it less than half filled and the tower turns only with great difficulty.I read reports from various customers before buying this unit and that was one of the criticisms. I chose to order it anyway and I have found the criticism to be valid indeed. You could improve this unit immensely by simply providing a stronger, more durable swivel which allowed the unit to swivel freely under any load. I have a similar unit which I purchased several years ago and it is far superior to this unit. It rotates freely and it is completely full of CDs.Another problem which was brought up by customers is the overlap on the left side of every shelf which "buries" the first CD on the shelf. I found a solution to this problem by simply inserting an empty jewel box into that space, thus allowing the first legitimate CD to be clearly seen.
