I'm extremely happy with these beds. :-) They're solid, very well finished, straightforward to assemble, parts and hardware were all perfect. There are naturally a lot of parts to go together, and you have to pay attention to the instructions, but they are accurate and the parts are clearly labeled. Two people are recommended for assembly, but I was able to assemble them by myself by modifying the steps somewhat. Basically I built the upper bed on top of the lower bed instead of building it on the floor and attempting to lift the entire bed up and setting it on the lower bed as the instructions say. I do have one complaint I guess; the slats that support the mattress, called "stretchers" in the instructions, are all connected by two strips of cloth. This makes them very unwieldy to move around and install, and then to make it worse, the straps of cloth end up being below the slats instead of on top of the slats, and next to the mattress. (There are countersunk pilot holes, so they cannot be flipped over.) The pilot holes are also very close to the end of the slats, and any attempt to adjust the placement elsewhere will instantly split the end out. This is obviously just a design flaw, but doesn't affect the general quality of the product.

This bed is much better quality than I anticipated. It looks better in person than the photos show, and while the clear finish could be thicker (given that it's a kid's bed and will have high use), the overall quality is well worth the price. It's very sturdy and solid. The finish is handsome in person. The main down sides for me were that the ladder only goes in the spot where it's pictured, so that may factor into the decision for some and it provides less flexibility when assembling or moving the bed to a new spot in the room. Also, I didn't see instructions to modify the bunk bed into two twin beds. (The top bunk has the lower end rails, so I'm assuming that you just swap those out so that each bed has a proper head and foot, but directions would have been nice.) Neither issue was a big enough deal in my mind to take off a whole star and I can see why it's so highly rated online. I would buy this again.

I'm only giving 3 stars because it is not a walnut color, is a dark gray color, besides that it is a very well made bunkbed. My kids really like it.

I read an answer that the top bunk should have a mattress no more than 8 inches tall but what about the bottom bunk and the trundle? How tall should the mattress be for those?
You could use whatever thickness mattress you would like, but keep in mind that a thicker mattress will lessen the effectiveness of the guardrail system that is in place. Legally, I think we are restricted to a 6" mattress for the top bunk, if we are selling it as a complete group.

This could be used as two separate beds.

What size mattress should you get for the top bunk to avoid the child rolling over the bar?
The top bunk of this bunk bed measures 13", from the slats to the top of the guardrail. It is recommended that 5" of guardrail not be covered up by the mattress, so the mattress for the top bunk of this frame should be no thicker than 8".

Twin

A Twin bed also referred to as a single bed is one of the smallest bed in the market with a dimension of 38’’ by 75’’. Its compact size makes it ideal for single sleepers may it be children or an adult living in a small space such as a studio apartment. It’s an affordable and versatile bed set up for various sleepers such as toddlers and college student in the dorm. For over several decades it has been one of the most popular beds among college students and young children in their early teens as you can find it in most of their bedrooms, however in this modern age where people are seeking for more comfort and space, the popularity of twin beds is been over taken by queen size beds. Despite being great for growing children it’s also very flexible and versatile especially if you are trying to maximize the space in your bedroom.

Brown

Even though brown is not the most obvious color to use when decorating your bedroom. A Brown bed’s warmth nook makes it worth incorporating in to your bedroom. And the fact that you would never expect to see a brown bed or bedroom décor makes it perfect for anyone who loves experimenting on colors and doesn’t like using playful pastels and bright neon’s. To avoid it from being swallowed into the dark bedroom interior, it’s recommended to be used in a bedroom with bright interior colors that bring about more lighting, which is a rich tone up especially to the brown bed and in the process creating another element intrigue. A brown bed is the only way to tone down a bright bedroom interior without having to repaint the walls.

Natural

Many people tend to think that in order to create a dramatic high-contrast bedroom space, you need to decorate your bedroom with bright colors or moody greens, blues, and reds. Well, it’s time to think again, because now with a natural colored/themed bed you can create a dreamy, dramatic and romantic bedroom space. A natural bed gives your bedroom a cozy and romantic look which is much better that the traditional rather spooky and cave like look, that is achieved through lots of unnecessary painting. Especially if you are a minimalist a natural bed is your best option as it gives you that minimalist look since it’s perfectly fine without any clutter and unnecessary furnishing and also it provides you with a clean, serene vibe. If you intend to keep an all-natural vibe in your bedroom then you should go and get yourself a Natural bed.

Drawers

A cluttered bedroom is not pleasing and relaxing at all. Sometimes, though your things are well-organized, seeing them still makes your space crowded. Two options are available: throw away your stuff or upgrade your regular bed into a drawer or storage bed. For sure, you will choose the latter, right?

Space-saving and multifunctional, drawer beds can make you feel like you don't need shelves and cabinets anymore. They come with 2 drawers, 4 drawers, 2 full and 2 half drawers, or end drawers built in the bed frame. Full ottoman and half ottoman are also available, where the entire bed offers hidden storage space. Drawer beds can also benefit your stuff since they are hidden, they won't accumulate dust. Finding them can also be easy for you because you have just one place to look at. After all, a tidy room can make your sleep better and more comfortable. And, yes, there's no such thing as too much storage.

Kids

The home is the training ground for children. It's where they learn and cultivate their values and character. So as a parent or a guardian, you play a big role in who they will become. Allow them to be themselves, to explore what they like, and to play with their imagination. Actually, you can start with their bedroom. How? Ask them what wall color they like. If you have an extra budget for a custom-made bed, ask your little one how he would like for it to look like. A car? A train? A spaceship? A dollhouse? Or if you can, build the bed yourself! It can be a great bonding time for you and your kids.

A kid's bed can also be space-saving with its built-in drawers, which can be a way to tidy up their toys and books. Beds with bedside table, where your child(ren) can study and play with papers and crayons, are also available in the market. Of course, kids love to play. Make bedtime fun with tent beds, beds with slide, and house-shaped kids' beds! Surely, your youngster will enjoy both his waking and sleeping hours.

Storage Included

When your bedroom space is small storage can be the biggest challenge you will encounter. Your closet could be a solution but not big enough to pack so many clothes. Well, you may want to buy a bigger cabinet, but you don’t want to pack so many dressers and cabinets into your space that it feels clunky and crowded. Storage beds are a fantastic way to get more space without adding extra furniture, and a lot of them are so stylishly designed you almost don’t notice the drawers are there. This bed design offers a great way to make the most of the space in your room, giving you a place to stash clothes, bedding, and more inside or beneath your bed frame. The best storage beds feature spacious compartments that are easy to access, and with tons of styles to choose from. The most common options are shelves built into the headboard or drawers built into the frame below the mattress. Depending on the reason you want space, a storage bed provides easy access, but if you're storing items that you don't need to get to very often, you can opt for a spacious platform beneath the bed that can be accessed when you lift the mattress. Ultimately, your choice will come down to what's most convenient for you.

A trundle bed is the ideal solution for you; perfect for siblings that share a room or for kid’s sleepovers, a trundle bed provides an extra sleep space while maintaining the integrity of your current space limitations. The trundle bed that is included with the (day/twin/twin over twin bunk) bed is constructed of solid, sturdy wood, and provides two/three sleeping areas while saving space. Beds

A bed can be referred as a piece of furniture which is used as a place to fall asleep and relax. In this modern age beds consist of a soft cushioned mattress and a bed frame, the mattress is usually resting on a sprung base, solid base, or a wood slats. Beds come in different sizes ranging from infant-sized cribs to small beds that can just accommodate one person, to large king and queen sized beds designed for two or more people. Most bed are usually a single mattress and a fixed frame, however there are other varieties such as a sofa bed, which folds out of a sofa or a murphy bed that folds in to a wall. Other beds can be referred as temporary beds as they contain neither a bedframe nor a mattress, a good example is the inflatable air mattress or the folding camp cot.

Hardwoods

Hardwood wood varieties refer to the type of tree the wood is taken from; it has nothing to do with how heavy or dense the wood is (contrary to popular belief!). Hardwood woods are sourced from trees that have leaves and lose their leaves in the winter months. Types of hardwood trees include hickory, maple, oak, birch and cherry (among others). Wood from hardwood trees is usually harder and therefore more dense, as these trees tend to grow at a slower rate. Hardwood is ideal for use in indoor furniture crafting, as it is sturdy and durable. Most hardwood varieties are bright and beautiful in their natural tone/shade, but many take well to staining, finishes and paints. The hardwood varieties offer a cozy, warm look and enrich your bedroom style. Hardwood bed frames are a great way to brighten your bedroom and enhance the overall look and feel of your sleep space!

Walnut

Walnut wood bed frames and headboards are an ideal choice for individuals who prefer a traditional style. Walnut wood is extremely strong and durable; it is one of the more versatile wood varieties and is relatively easy to work with in terms of woodworking craftsmanship. The look of walnut furniture is very clean and simple and can easily adapt into a traditional or contemporary décor style. The natural color of walnut wood is a beautiful, natural tone that will enhance the ambience of your bedroom and it will make it feel relaxing and calm. Walnut wood bed frames are a bit pricier than other available wood varieties, but you get what you pay for; walnut wood furniture is some of the longest-lasting, sturdiest bedroom furniture available on the market. Walnut wood bed frames look incredible when paired with neutral toned fabrics and simple textiles, such as an off-white or muted blue color palette.
